Heidelberg Pharma is a German company building antibody-drug conjugates around amanitin, a toxin from the death cap mushroom that kills cells by blocking RNA polymerase II, with its lead candidate HDP-101 in multiple myeloma.
Heidelberg Pharma, based in Ladenburg near Heidelberg and listed in Frankfurt, develops antibody-targeted amanitin conjugates (ATACs): the payload amanitin inhibits RNA polymerase II, a mechanism distinct from the microtubule and DNA-damaging payloads of most ADCs and active in slowly dividing cells. Its lead candidate HDP-101 targets BCMA in relapsed multiple myeloma, and the platform is licensed to partners including Takeda. It appears on OnCo as a lead sponsor of phase 3 cancer trials on ClinicalTrials.gov, from earlier programmes.
