AVITI benchtop sequencer with avidity chemistry, competing on accuracy and cost with mid-throughput Illumina systems.
Element Biosciences, based in San Diego, makes the AVITI benchtop sequencer, which uses avidity chemistry to compete on accuracy and cost with mid-throughput Illumina systems. AVITI and AVITI24, which runs multiomics on a single instrument, were launched between 2022 and 2024. OnCo links it to new short-read sequencing platforms. Whether a benchtop challenger can win clinical laboratories away from the incumbent when assays are validated on Illumina is the open question. The short-read platforms page carries the wider picture.
